My father always carried his camera and lenses with him, and I can recall family slideshows in the basement. These days, having family spread across every time zone in the country and on three continents, makes it easy to hop on a plane to discover (or revisit) a new destination. I seek to capture an element of the culture and overall energy of my surroundings. I embrace lines, symmetry, and rawness in my images. As an avid surfer and adventure seeker, traveling the globe to catch Mother Nature provides fertile ground for photographic opportunities. My goal is to continue to enjoy photography and play music, making new friends along the way.
:philosophy: an analog approach
I use (mostly) digital cameras and computers to capture and edit images, but what does an analog approach mean? Having a consistent methodology to your work without letting technology get in the way. It's about the image, the song, the adventure along the way. Sure you can shoot a thousand photos (i.e. "spray and pray") until something comes out, but there's a confidence in knowing when to move on or when you got 'the shot'. I like to use natural light and focus on capturing images the way they exist without an overhyped sense of realism or too much digital wizardry all too common these days.
Current technology can make images so sharp, they look like something out of the latest Hollywood flick. There are times when you need that sort of detail, but I lean towards images that are closer to what a human eyes actually sees, and what we as viewers actually feel. I welcome (and use) modern equipment and techniques, but also love the natural inaccuracies, depth, and beauty of a raw, analog approach. Ultimately, it's the image that drives me.
